Fear of driving, driving anxiety, Amaxophobia -- however you refer to it, this fear can be dramatically reduced or eliminated with hypnotherapy whether you are new to driving, took a long break, or you've had the problem for a long time. Both the fear and physical symptoms like nausea and panic are addressed. This therapy is effective for both drivers and passengers.
With hypnosis, you can enjoy a profound reduction in the intensity of emotions and incapacitation you are experiencing. We may use techniques referred to as systematic desensitization, dissociation and in some cases regression.
Our first session contains both hypnosis and a brief conversation to understand, as you can explain it, where you think the fear or phobia originates and how it holds you back. Often fears and phobias are tied to other experiences or "sensitizing events" that are not directly related. Most importantly, we will fix on exactly how you want to feel once you have moved past it.
The following hypnosis sessions move directly to change how you experience the stimulus or situation and replace it with positive or neutral feelings so that you may live without further impairment or distress. Most people find the experience to be exceptionally positive and relaxing that bring tremendous relief.
Depending on your personal situation, the fear of driving can usually be eliminated within four sessions. Typically, you will have two sessions, then start driving, then two followup sessions to polish and reinforce your success. There is no need for a dozen or more sessions in talk therapy.
